Grafting Question

When grafting a cutting to a branch, does the diameter of the cutting normally decrease as if it were dying or remain the same size?  I do not know if my grafts are dying or is it normal to shrivel a bit.  The terminal bud on one cutting is still green but the cutting is about half the diameter of when I started. I started the graft three weeks ago.

Doesn't sound good.

I would think your graft did not take, the drying is not good.. This is a tough time of year to graft, which is normally done just prior or after breaking dormancy. Budding is frequently done this time of year on some fruiting trees, but I have never tried budding on Figs. Anybody here sucessful budding fig?

Ok, logic said they were dying but I have done other fig related things too soon and killed many a plant. Sounds like I can remove the grafts. Thanks.
