Grafting tool?

Thoughts on some of the grafting tools available out there?
Any of them any good or go with a knife?
Never tried a graft before, looking ahead.
Please advise.

I went with a knife. The tools overall don't get the best reviews from people who do a good deal of grafting. Search grafting, grafting tools, graft knife etc. on the top right or Google, Bing, etc. you'll get hours of reading and videos to make up your mind. If you go with a knife it's a good idea to tape your thumb with a few wraps. I didn't slice mine, but many do, and I imagine it is only a matter of time without it so in the future I will be wrapping mine.  Good luck.

i use a swiss army knife from amazon, about 12 bucks.  beveled on only one side, been very happy.  buy a sharpening stone/pen ot us e in the field.  they need ot be razor sharp and dull auickly.  Razor blades do work, btw

It depends on what kind of grafts you are going to do.
I found a Craftsman Accu-Cut super useful for may types (+ a good knife). Please see my bark graft over here and a photo of the tool:

Also, you may need to use some Grafting Wax, like this, for example, to prevent from drying :

Knife. Many tools only do a wedge cut, and can damage the bark or cuttings. The knife works for any technique: Wedge, saddle, whip and tongue, splice, budding, chip, etc.

I use an omega grafting tool for apples, peaches, plumes, cherry etc. a knife for citrus with a simple T graft. and i dont graft figs. dont really see the need. thats just me tho. however i do enjoy reading about others encounters with grafting figs. that thread about grafting roots onto a cutting i found neat. might want to try that myself one day if i get brave enough.

Thanks for all the advice!
