Green Greek

Just checking back on this thread, to see I'd missed anything.
I now have Stella, "Vasilika Sika", and JH Adriatic growing. It looks like I'll get fruit from my (horribly slow growing) Stella and from JH.
I acquired Vasilika Sika from Marius this winter (thank you) but consensus is that this is really Dalmatie.
Tam, will you have access to the variety you found? I'd like to set up a trade, if you can, and if I have a variety you'd like to try.

Is the Green Greek the same variety that was available at Bass' Fig Gathering, that I had and traded away??

Rui: Currently I do not have any cutting from that Green Greek tree. I will stop by later to look at her tree. I have seen this variety a Trees of Joy.

Best,
Tam

Hi Ruuting,
I have a post on Brebas of "Dalmatie "- "European strain".
Is "Vasilika sika" supposed to make brebas ?
What I like at my "Dalmatie" is her habit to root-shoot. Makes it easy to propagate ... But know I fell invaded . The daughters are young trees for now -most started end of 2012,2013 and this year- , and haven't shown any figlets ...
But are more aggressive growers than the mother plant ... Perhaps because the smalls are in compost and mother is in local clay-dirt ...

jdsfrance: I thought France has zone 8 (10°F to 20°F) cold hardiness. Where do you live in France, it is very cold (-13°F) there in a winter. That is in zone 5 here. Can you grow fig trees in a ground there? Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

@ jdsfrance
no my friend, vasilika sika does not make brebas

Hi Tam:
Your Green greek looks so much like the Gota de Mel.
If you had to compare the two varieties what is your opinion of them?
Thank you, Leon

Leon: I found only a few 5 lobed leaves and 2 small thumbs under this Green Greek tree. There were no single-lobed leaves. Most of the branches in full sun had mostly 5 lobed leaves. The figs from this tree had more thicker skins and pulps had more deeper red color than the Gota De Mel. I will update the Gota De Mel later. Thanks.

Best,
Tam

Tam, you sure do come across some really good varieties!
