Green House Figs

The other day the our family went to the Calgary zoo for
the "Zoo Lights" for Christmas.
Thousands and thousands of lights all around the zoo.
While we went inside to warm up I went into the Arboretum, to see
the plants.
What did they have inside, but a "Black Mission"  fig tree .
It had three figs on it too.
The tree couldn't have been more than four years old, but it was happy growing inside.

Jerry,

You didn't say how big of a smile you had on your face when you saw the fig tree ( LOL ).
I bet it was a beautiful sight to see this time of year.

Just another reason why I should have my own greenhouse.

I wonder if they use compost on that tree as plenty is on hand.

Would you like some elephant poo to fertilize your figs? haha. I bet they could come up with some real exotic fertilizers!

Bigger is not always better I remember my uncle using pigeon poo and having to cut it in a big barrel of water along with horse compost but boy did that garden flourish. I just don't remember him ever fertilizing the fig trees specifically even though the garden was where they were located

My Dad and I used to raise racing homers. That poo is pretty potent! Too much and you'll burn your plants.

Ya, I had a big smile on my face! lol

I would have loved to get a cutting, but no one was there to ask.
The zoo does sell off cuttings from differant plants.
Maybe when the weather gets a little warmer we will take my grandaughter
and I will try to get some.

Jerry

Did someone said pigeons!
They can become more nuisance than squirrels sometimes if you don't let them eat their share or all of it. See for yourself:

That was funny, Ottawan.  Thanks for postings! Not a fig tree in the entire clip.
