green house for dormant winter storage

Instead of trying to do fig shuffle, I'm considering putting up a temporary green house.  Not to keep them warm enought for growing, just to prevent freezing.  Keep windows open unless there's a chance for freezing.  And if it's a hard freeze, turn on a heater w/thermostate to keep temp just above freezing.

Does this sound feasible?  I'm considering this one: http://www.amazon.com/STRONG-12X7X7-Outdoor-Gardening-Greenhouse/dp/B0098R8GES/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3GE0Z66T0KKNN

That should work fine. The part you may be surprised by is how hot it gets on a sunny day in mid winter. But if you keep everything open except on cold nights you should be OK. The plants will likely start growing sooner due to the extra heat. But that's not all bad as long as you don't let them freeze.

If you have a shady location that might be best. Say on the north side of a building or under a big live oak.

James, something from another thread to consider.

the figs will not go dormant if your green house temps are in the 70's.
if the night time temps go to low, the trees might be damaged by the high/low cycling of temps.
If you keep the lows above 40 they will not go dormant.

I'm in the same situation.  I was considering a greenhouse to keep them from freezing.  I don't think I have room for all of them in the garage.  Any suggestions?

I have one that looks the same.  It's a good quality plastic greenhouse.  I use it indoors to keep water from splashing around the house as I grow my cuttings.  You don't freeze often but this greenhouse hardly has any insulation so it will be expensive when you do  :)

Figs in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Caribbean never go dormant and they produce just fine.

Whats wrong with cold temps are they first year plants  ?
As a note fig shuffle is done in the spring in cold climates not fall if one needs to do put plant out of cold temps there obviously
trying to ripen figs that came out too late in spring or young plant that did so
and is still adjusting its timeing .
ie: propagated scion and showing fig embryo's
later than normal plant that has gone thru process several years.

Yes, they are all first year plants.  Some are 3 gal some are 5 gal.  A couple are 17 gal.

I'm only concerned about a place to put them if the temps drop into the mid 30's or lower.  We haven't had a lot of temps that low here in a while but it could always happen and I don't want to be caught with no plan for them if it does get that low.

That's exactly what I'm going to do, keeping my smallest figs in a greenhouse on the porch with my lemon tree and epipyyllums.  I'm getting some amazing temps in the greenhouse even on cloudy days it got up to 80 with door and window open.. I'll use an oil radiator heater to keep above 40.  It's going to be a nervous winter checking those temps.  I put the bigger ones in the detatched garage. There's no way for me to shuffle them in and out, so I hope they lose their leaves now and go to sleep.
