I was wondering if anyone was growing Green Jordan and tasted a fig. not my picture
growing it haven't tasted it yet
KK, don't remove the figs, instead, remove all but last 2-3 leaves from each branch.
??
removing the leaves helps it to finish up and ripen faster.
I've heard people say that but I don't believe it. I don't have any proof.
I agree with Bob. On several levels cutting leaves seems like a bad idea. First, directing energy into ripening figs this late in the season without leaves to replenish energy stores for dormancy may lead to delayed or no breaking dormancy next year. Also, removing leaves can signal the tree to expend energy to put on new growth. The leaves shade the tree so the trunk does not get sun scald on cool but sunny days. They also hide the fruit from predators.
Looks like these guys aren't going to ripen this year so I broke a few open to have a look
those look like Breba crop, maybe you over fertilized the plant?
Nice fig KK!Love that redDoug
would give amazing crop with warmer days..., shame
