Green Lightning Pickers

It's been fun this summer trying to do things that don't cost anything with my kids.  Part of today's activities was to ID plants around the neighborhood.  My daughter has named us the "Green Lightning Pickers."  Amongst other things, we found a weeping mulberry tree on a sidewalk with lots of ripe delicious fruit.  We also found 3 fig trees which we got cuttings from.  One of the trees had an enormous trunk, about 1.5 feet in diameter and was loaded with unripe figs.   My mother says that she used to get figs from this tree many years ago and they were the best ever.  She doesn't remember if they were dark or light figs.  Here is a picture of the leaves from the tree, so I think I can rule out Brown Turkey and Black Mission (yea!).

Interesting looking leaves, would love to see the  fruit too. I notice tthat some of the very best figs have leaves similar to this, less cuts and lobes. You may have a real winner there. Great that your kids like to do that stuff too.

I'm getting cuttings by this weekend from this tree (picture posted above).   Supposed to be a great fig.  I know nothing about it except that my mom says it's the best tasting one she's had in her life and she is very picky.  It's owned by a church.  The trunk of this tree is one of the nicest I've seen with really smooth bark and no suckers that I could see.   If anyone wants cuttings, let me know.  I don't know if I have tons of time to do a lot of mailings, but will try.   I already have a list of some people who wanted them so will send those out first.
