Greenhouse

Just a couple/three pix of my greenhouse. 8 x 8 x 8 with a small heater on a timer and thermostat and a single mister.

The whole things was about $700, most of which was the double-wall plastic covering/ The rest was 2 x 2 and 2 x 3 wood strips, 3/4 Trex for the bottom where it sits on the soil, some corrugated plastic for the shelves, and some screws. Whole thing took 3/4 of a day to build.

For the winter, I have black plastic on the top and south side to help provide heat.  In the winter I turn the mister on occasionally to add humidity. In the summer it is on all day to reduce temps and maintain humidity.

You can see some things rooting using my "New Style" bag technique, and somethings done with multiple cuttings in one pot. Some are done using the new split cup technique. There are a few things already potted up and getting adjusted before going outside. About 50 one gallon pots went outside under the cherimoya tree to acclimate this weekend on their way to full sun.

The second pix also has some strawberry boxes, lined with paper towel, and then filled with potting mix, with one node cuttings layed horizontal.

Jon,

Thanks for posting, Those are many little figlets you have.

I've first saw this bag method with Gorgi and never got around to ask him but are those baby bottle plastic bags you are using or something else?
If not, Can you provide some info like the brand, size and where I can find them?

Thanks,

Rafed , Jon posted about that new bag rooting method a couple weeks ago.

here is the link with all the info

Jon,
Is that white perlite looking stuff actually perlite? I use horticultural perlite but I have not seen this kind of mega size perlite before.

Thanks Nelson,

Don't know how I completely missed the thread.

No Problem Rafed, I too bought some of those bags and they work great.

Akram, I have been buying the scotts perlite and its 50/50 either the bag comes with nice and big course perlite or its tiny and poudery.

Someone did suggest using baby formula bottle liners. That isn't what I did, but nothing wrong with that. I only included the particulars so that there would be at least one idea on how to do it. It was along the lines of: "this is what I did and how I did it" - but there are probably dozens of variations and ways to be cheaper, etc. This was practical for me. I am sure someone can improve on it, which is what the forum is all about: stimulating each other for the benefit of all.

Harbor freight has the ten by twelve foot greenhouse on sale right now for $599.00, plus I'm using a 20% off coupon to bring the final price down to $480.00 through March 25th. May be useful to someone.

Be careful with those low, low priced greenhouses.  You get what you pay for.  I bought one from Costco Online a year ago.  Absolute crap.  Flimsy, the panels popped out from the slightest breeze, the door kept coming off.  It would disintegrate if it was subjected to direct wind.  After reconstructing it with screws and "battens", and putting it on the leeward side of the house, it was "okay' for very basic shelter...but I certainly wouldn't buy another one.
