I stumbled upon this old fig tree today. I took my kids to a local historic greenhouse built in the 1960's. Of course no one there could tell me anything about it. I emailed the director so hopefully they can help identify it or at least what color the figs are. The bottom pic gives you an idea how big the room is. Snapped a pic from the brochure More pics of trunk & knarled branches Guess it's a small dark fig smaller than a quarter & they had another fig tree.

Ate both pictures from same tree ? Confused a bit. If they are i would go with Celeste which is a southern fig. Just a guess
Could be. I'll be stopping by on Monday to talk to the director. She said it's been there before she was even hired. I'll be taking a few cuttings. Could be a Celeste but I'm in northern Indiana 5 min from Notre Dame University. Whenever it fruits I'll update the pics.
May not be a Celeste then. Too far north. Looks like a old tree. Is it in a pot or in ground
In the ground. Could've been planted in the 60's. It's definitely a forgotten about fig tree. When I asked about the figs no one knew a thing about it. Figs are nonexistent around here. It's located inside a conservatory I'm guessing whoever donated it it was his favorite fig.
Well you may have to get this one going. And go back to see what it is.
Would you mind taking a picture of the planter it's in or the base of the fig tree? Just wondering how much space those roots have, I'm actually very glad that you will bring this tree some much needed new life.
Those fruits do not look ripe.
Its got a hollow center so rules out Celeste and puts it in the BT class
That fig trunk is totally huge, did you decide to take some cuttings, or are you going to wait and see if it's a good fig?
This is awesome,I love it when you find this kinda stuff.Did you manage to speak to the Director of the place?
If you can get permission to start an airlayer that would be the way to go..you would have a ready made tree . LOL
