Greetings All

I have been mainly a fly on the wall, just flying in to read a bit here and there.
My name is Gloria and I live in Fort Mill, SC first town south of Charlotte NC. I have one magnificent tree that I have to label an unknown. I am working on rooting some cuttings to expand my fig empire. I hope to have a small orchard of maybe 20 types.
I know a lot more about tomatoes and orchids, these I have grown for years and in abundance so I will have a lot of questions about figs. If anyone has any gardening ones I'm happy to help.
I will be at the Southern Fig Gathering, so I look forward to meeting many of you.

Welcome to the forum! And unfortunately, the southern fig meetin has been cancelled. :( Maybe next year.

Hi and Welcome!

Welcome Gloria , very nice to have you. If you keep it to 20 types you will be doing better than all of us. You've been bitten by the fig bug, just let go and collect them all.

Hello Gloria and welcome !

Welcome Gloria !

Welcome, Gloria.  As you already know, there is a wealth of info here and everyone is always willing to help you out with advice and their own experiences.

hohoho, gloria has finally come out.

just as well, let people here know how nice you are.

you can also try the PM thingie.

Welcome, Gloria!

Hi Gloria, welcome! If you love gardening and figs, this is the place to be! I would love to hear about your fig plant! Elizabeth.

Welcome!  This would be a good time to post pics of your tree (leaves, fruit, etc) and perhaps the experts here will be able to identify it.

I will post pictures tomorrow.... if I ever remember to get my camera out of my husbands car!!

welcome Gloria

Welcome Gloria. I also grow a few orchids but my focus is more on succulents. Most folks here also grow other fruiting plants or trees, so lots of gardening talk around here.

Welcome Gloria,

Hope the rooting project of your unknown will be very successful. Perhaps next year we will all have the opportunity to meet at a SE Fig Gathering. I know there are several of us living in the Upstate and look forward to meeting other members and having faces to put with screen names.

Many of us are interested in unknowns producing nice fruit.  Perhaps you can post a picture showing a leaf, whole fruit and fig cut in half so we can see what the inside looks like. Some of our fig experts may be able to tell you a bit more about your tree seeing this information. I did not see what Zone you live in but I am assuming it is probably zone 7 which is hospitable to a quite a number of figs which can be grown in ground and a virtually innumerable number of figs which can be grown either under glass or in pots brought into a sheltered environment for winter. Some of your not too distant neighbors have fig collections numbering in the hundreds. You should have a lot of fun developing your collection.
