Grise de Tarascon (Breba) - 2016

I purchased this a couple years ago from Brugmansia-Quebec nursery here in Canada. It dropped its main crop figs each year but I've read its a San Pedro type. I've also read Grise de Tarascon is synonymous with Dauphine. This year it has some brebas and I just picked this one today. You can see the pith could have been more translucent so I should have left it a few more days. First fig of the year so yes I was impatient lol. It was still an excellent tasting fig with that richness that stays on your palate for a while. If anyone has Dauphine (Paully I think you have that one??) that might compare the fruit and leaf I would be curious to see if it is similar.

This was the make or break year for this one and for a breba its a keeper.

Very nice!  I didn't realize it was a san pedro type.  Mine came from France, but is a little over two years old so did not fruit this year.  Maybe next...

Hi Tyler
very nice I'm glad to see you're starting to enjoy some figs
i'm still in a holding pattern

Yes I have Dauphine. Based on Color it does look different. Maybe your tree is young. What counts more is taste. My number One all round breba only tree is Granthams Royal. Better tasting than DK, Filanciano,,Blanche Alasche, Latarrula, Osborne Prolific.. My GR is heavily laden with figs and they are showing signs of swelling & turning Color..

Thanks for the input Paully.... With your praises of GR I'm hoping mine produces figs next year! Tyler

Here's a couple more a few days away from being ready...

Hi Tyler
I understood Dauphine and Grise de Tarascon are synonyms.
However my Dauphine does appear much darker.  It was grown in a 5 Gal container, full sun on a hot patio and watered twice daily.  Here are some photos that you can compare;

Hi,
I m waiting on my grise de Tarascon to fruit.
Your fig looks too light colored for Dauphine.
Dauphine is a common fig.
Pino's looks right for Dauphine.

Yes I might just add "Unknown" to the label as I'm not sure now that is true to type.... thanks for the replies guys.

Nice looking fig Pino!

Tyler

I’ve been wondering also about Dauphine = Grantham's Royal = Royal Vineyard = Drap D'Or. All of these look different from the Grise de Tarascon picture here.

Original French text:  "Grise de Tarascon: Très grosse figue, de couleur violet pale proche du gris, importante production de figues fleurs au printemps dans les région tempérée."

Google Translate: "Gray Tarascon: "Very big fig, close pale purple gray, large flower production figs spring in temperate region."
