Grow indoor

My town does not allow me to build green house because of setback issue. So I build a grow room in basement. The temperature is pretty constant around 60F, and humidity is 80%. Here are some baby trees.

very nice indeed. i am going to build a shed with plexy glass roof and grow lights just to have more room for my over winter projects. my green house unfortunatly is not four season.

Jimmy, very nice set up. I haven't tried the large bins/tubs.

Beautiful grow room. Heat lamps, reflective insulated walls, grow lights, wow.  Whats not to like? Nice job Jimmy.

I have a piece of property 100'x300' in central jersey. Just got a permit to build a hoophouse. Will start the construction in spring. This will be the new home for the baby fig trees next year.

Nice job Jimmy, I was wondering how you were going to handle all those young cuttings

60 F is a little cool, but slowing the growth in the winter's not all bad.  Rooting happens better at 70 -80 degrees.  I think those are LED grow lights, right?

KK,
Thanks for the cuttings. I showed you the beautiful sprout last time you were here. I later found out they don't have root at all because of too much water. Potting soil is not good for rooting. Also, some of them were killed by the cold temp. That's why I move them indoor with controlled temp and humidity. They look happier now.

To Bob,
I have LED grow light, but they are really expensive. So I added some fluorescent grow light from Walmart. Unfortuantely, they only have 4 in stock and can't order online. So I added whatever light I have, such as CFL, floor lamp, even a bug zapper. Even they are not energy efficient as LED, the waste energy becomes heat. When the baby tree grow bigger, I will add more lights which will generate more heat. I am thinking to increase the temperature, but the grow room is 9'W x 15'L x 7'H. My wife think I've been too extreme. I don't want to surprise her with the electric bill. Besides, lower temp minimize the fungus.

Best of luck with them!

Jimmy.....all fig lovers are "too" extreme  LOL  :))

Did you check Craigslist in your area for used grow lights like HPS or MH? Sometimes you can find stuff like that for a nice price. Don't forget to add a large fan once you have lot's of activley growing trees, the air exchange and temperature circulation is needed; plus the wind moving the leaves helps to strengthen the stems and decrease legginess.

Calvin,

Good idea, will give it a try.

That is a fantastic set-up. Wish I had more room. As it stands, I am starting to have figs in various stages all over the house.

I placed the plastic container on a electric blanket, and gave them a lot of water. Inside the container, the temperature is aorunf 70F, and moisture is close to 100%. Just came back from my vacation for a week. I am so surprised to see root growing everywhere. This twig is only about 5mm in diameter.

Looks like the Black Mission is requesting to be air layered!
