Grow pot from ebay -- anyone has used this?

Hi fellow forum members!

I am looking to buy some cheap pot to transfer my rooted cuttings to. I found these Grow Pot on ebay that seems to be reasonably cheap. A 1 Gal pot only cost about 0.3 each.

I am wondering, has anyone used these pot for fig cuttings before? If so, how good are they?

Also, what size would you recommend for transferring rooted cuttings from 16oz cup to?

Thanks!

For the price it wouldn't hurt to try them. But I wouldn't count on it for long term use. Doubt they would be sturdy enough to hold the plants upright when they get taller.

But for 1st or 2nd year figs I would say go for it.

Good luck

Thanks. Would you recommend using 1 or 2 gal containers for 1 or 2 year figs?

If you're planning on up potting 1 or 2 year figs into larger pots then I would suggest you use the standard nursery pots.

But if you're planning on moving newly rooted cuttings from what ever rooting method you are using then either size will be fine. If you think your cuttings are aggressive growers then I would go with the 2gl. bags. At least you won't need to up pot them as soon.

Hope I was able to help and I'm sure others will chime in on this subject soon.

It is a great subject.

Good luck

I've used those containers before. One thing I would recommend, is to burry the container few inches in ground. Helps a lot with growth of your plants.

Sorry, I misread the topic. When you posted "Grow pot from eBay," I was stunned for a moment. I thought you were actually asking about marijuana on here. Whew!

As for the question, I have not used those containers, but I don't see why they would not work just fine for new cuttings. As Rafed said, I doubt they would be sturdy enough for the larger figs though.

my experience is that pot bought on ebay is rarely of the variety claimed and roots poorly.

Check with some of the nurseries in your area.  Several here have more 1 gal up to 5 gal pots than they know what to do with and give them away free.

these are good for starting out especially if you dont have wind -they are tipped over easily i think.
just from riding to work by bike i got pots for a lifetime- i find them, than  hide them and pick them up by my car next day. people trow nursey pots all over the globe especially springtime...

Thanks for all the tips! I think I will check out the local nursery. If they don't have pots to give away, I'll try the one on ebay!

I am using white grow bags from ebay and I absolutely love them! They are bigger than nursery pots listed at the same size so really look at the dimensions. I have the 1 and 3 gallon sizes and my figs seem to really like them. They are 6mil plastic so they hold up pretty well. I can't say that would be the case if you were doing the fig shuffle. However, while they are small it is an inexpensive viable method. I am going to be getting a few of the bigger ones to try them out.
Besides the figs I have angels trumpets in them and they are going nuts.

Tami, are those the bags advertised for potatoes? I used the 5-gallon ones last year for spuds. They are really nice. I've considered transferring some figs to them this year.

I don'recall them saying anything about potatoes but I would think the large ones would be perfect for them. I opted for the white ones so I wouldn't have to worry about burning roots in the sun.
More I think about it the more I like the idea of potatoes in these. One slice and the harvest is done. How easy can it get? Thanks John.
