Growing Blueberries

So while I was lurking on the forum noticed that our figs4fun forum remembers are more than just fig growers haha. Some are growing berries, others are growing fruits trees so I hope you don't mind me a straying a bit here.

I was recently offered a collection of blueberries for $8 a pot and was wondering if anyone had grown these varieties, had any experience with them, and if they would do well in 7b, NC?

Varieties: New Hanover, Legacy, Onslow and Columbus.

He says they should produce 5lbs. a fruit for me each and they are 2-3 years old?

I don't know any of them except Legacy and it's a good one, and should grow ok in your zone. 5 pounds easy, but maybe not for a year or so. Once big they will produce more. They can get to 6-8 feet tall. You have to maintain a very acidic soil, they will not thrive if you do not.

Ourfigs.com has topics of figs and blueberries... lots of knowledgeable people that can help you out... I'm thinking of growing blueberries as well this year

@Drew: Thank you for your advice!

@jaylyne: Thanks jaylyne! I'll check it out! Another forum member suggested that forum as well. :) Good luck with your blueberries!

If you have clay soil you either have to dig a trench and replace the clay with peat moss or grow in containers or something else that will get your pH down to 4.something.

If you have the slightest inkling you want to you should.  BBs are great.  Invest in bird netting  :)

I use raised beds and so control all of the soil. I use a mix of pine bark fines, peat moss, and some peat based compost. They grow like weeds in it. I have 7 plants. Harvest was good last year.
