hi there all,
picked up the encanto farms site on the net whilst looking for fig seeds, and read the full text by on the fig scions, very interesting and well done,i just grow anything i can eat ,from seeds although i have bought a few trees, most things seem to grow quite well in the british climate without using the greenhouse, although i have two of them, apart from all the usual veg n squashes /rhubarb/raspberrys/blackberrys/loganberrys etc i grow 5 types or figs,/apples/ pears/plums/cherrys/peaches/nectorines/loganberrys/gooseberrys/jostaberrysred n black n white currants/passion fruit 3 types/6 types of grapes, bostok glory is very fast n vigourous/passion fruit spreds like a weed to all the other gardens, everything seems to be totaly frost hardybut last winyter the exteem frosts froze the passion vines solid and split them down the middle, cut them off at the ground  and they grew back from below.also got a couple of bannana plants outside, die in winter and come back in spring.wish i had some of your san diego sun, have to go to spain for mine and all my diferent fresh figs,,bye. joe

hi Joe,
what varieties of figs do you grow?

hi goldie,
main tree is a brown turkey about 15yrs old in a 2ftx20" pot,old n twisted but get brilliant large green figs which turn dark blue/black then split good for eating and jam,at this moment its in the garden in 10 /15 deg below will see what the spring brings, small stuff all from seed are brunswick, black valencian, green valencian, stripped valencian ,bursa turkey.as these are all from the figs i buy on the spanish markets the names may be not correct but all make nice plants and when they get to about 15inches tall i sell a lot on ebay as a hobby .i have a 8ft tall brunswick in my allottment thats unruly,no fruit yet and the winds tear it to pieces, but live in hope of fruit.will be in spain in january so find some different figs on the markets,,,
