Growing tip dying on 1 year old treelet

I have a Viollete de Bordeaux rooted last summer in a 1 gal pot. It is about 1 ft tall. It already put 3-4 leaves and it's trying to set 2 brebas (which I should remove). The problem is that the growing tip shriveled and dried out. The leaves are green and healthy, no sign of wilting or anything. What may cause the dying tip, and is it serious?

Sounds like it dessicated during dormancy. Not unusual. Probably was not thick/hard enough before it went dormant. It will be fine. Good luck!

same thing happened to mine. but otherwise the tree is doing well.

i made a back up of the tree since i like my VdB very much.

Not normal, but not a panic either. As long as exiting leaves are healthy and don't give evidence of stress, lack of water, etc. just wait for it to push growth from a different bud.

Had the same happen on a couple of trees due to spider mites getting in the terminal bud.  No problem, shoots below that point came out a month after others came out of dormancy and we're all good.

Thanks for the answers! I wonder if they need some N fertilizer. Except compost tea, I haven't fed them anything (they were rooted last year).
