Damn! That didn't take long.

I thought that the size would confuse you all, since almas are usually small to medium. These babies are huge, some the size of lemons.

I thought Alma's were at least medium sized, are they all bigger or just some?. I got some cuttings from Sybil this winter because she said this one was her favorites and was very productive in VA Beach.

You will have to run one of these contest again so I can keep my satisfaction level up ;)

Which was it?

Brent is the winner, Jason.

It was the most obvious choice really, Frank loves those Almas.

I'm going to put it on my list!  Wow!

OK, you must all be sick of me posting pictures of alma figs. Indulge me for just a few more and then I will be done...until the next batch.

This one was a record breaker at 72 grams!
The other one was pecked at by a bird but I can't blame it. Pure honey!

Oh there they are, very nice!!

Frank, are they as good as advertised?  I'm hoping to harvest some in my yard, but it'll be another 2 years or so.

Brent, I'm also growing an Alma cutting from Sybil.  It grew two strong leads very quickly, and I pruned them back to encourage more branching.  Now it's growing strongly from the pruned areas.  I hope it's that vigorous once I plant it in the ground next year...  How are your cuttings progressing?

Very vigorous and healthy, Bataglia Green also looks great. It seems Alma is a little harder to form roots than most varieties to me though, good that your one made it.

Dave, these particular figs from these particular trees are better than advertised!
Here's the problem: it looks like we need the conditions of a "perfect storm" in order to get figs as good as these. I say this because I have scions from the same tree planted in 3 other areas of my property and the resulting figs are nowhere as good as those pictured.
So, imagine trying to compare quality and quantity of figs obtained from any specific cultivar from different parts of the country.

Just goes to show.

I had an Alma a few years back, It produced fair figs in its 2 nd year and that was it, the thing never produced figs again so I ran my riding lawnmower over it.So now I don't have to worry about it.
