Had anyone ever tasted a Rouge De Bordeaux?

Had anyone ever tasted a Rouge De Bordeaux before? What's it like

i haven't. i put off getting one for awhile. by the time i was looking for it, it was very much in demand and very hard to get my hands on. i got few good cuttings, but only had one survive. when i first read about it, it was said that the taste is great. sort of like VdB, but the skin is thinner. then i also read the eye is not tight. main reason i refused to get one before when i had few offers.

everyone who has one raves about RdB. i haven't heard anyone saying anything bad about it. some of pictures are just wonderful to look at. will post a thread as soon as i taste one. if it's anything like VdB, i'll be able to taste one or two this year. my VdB put on figs a year after being rooted. my RdB was rooted last early summer.

Pete, are you thinking of Ronde de Bordeaux?  Rouge is a different fig and never got quite as popular as Ronde.

I read that is 1 of the best tasting figs, i tried to find a photo
of a cut open one and i can't find one

Will show Rouge de Bordeaux ripe figs this upcoming season. That is if they do not behave like its syn Pastiliere as it may meet the same fate eventually.

No!
But... I just purchased my first fig tree--a healthy looking VdB from Home Depot. I get a 10% discount for being a Veteran. I have been looking for a VdB for some time and swiped the first one off the shelf I saw.
My new VdB is about 4' tall. I asked the guy at HD how old it was and he said, 5-6 years old. Could that be true? Anyway, my tree is nicely trimmed so I could place it up against my wall on the side of my duplex. It is pretty. There were some buds that started and have been growing every day. Can't wait to eat one of the figs.

On an aside, my grandfather bought fig newtons every week. But the fig newtons do not taste like the ones I ate as a child in the seventies. I cannot wait for my fresh figs.

What is a Rouge De Bordeaux?
Any relation to Viollette de Bordeaux?

VdB is Violette de Bordeaux, a very nice fig.  There's a recent thread with photos here

ok, since i'm sober.. there are three with similar names that has Bordeaux at the end. i think it's some region on france, like wine. they are Violette de Bordeaux, Ronde de Bordeaux, and Rouge de Bordeaux. i'm not sure if there are others, but these 3 are most talked about. VdB is a common fig that can be purchased almost everywhere now days. it grows well, small in size and have great taste if weather cooperates.

Ronde de Bordeaux is similar to VdB. i have heard great things about this one. per the comments, it has thin skin. i also heard that it does not have tight eye. i'll have to see either this or next year to see what the figs will look like.

Rouge de Bordeaux, not many comment on this one. some says it's same as Pastiliere. there are lot more information on Pastiliere. Pastiliere is great fig, if you can make it hang in there till it ripens. most of the figs will drop before reaching complete ripe stage. there are few members who are now growing Rouge de Bordeaux to see what they will be like. i'm sure as time goes, more information will be available.

anyone have any photos of a cut open one?

Or cuttings for sale?

What are the other names for this fig?

I haven't heard or seen any other names for this one. I looked for it for quite awhile and was unable to locate one so I gave up.

There are members growing this now. We'll hear more about it in future.
