Had my first Black Madeira today!

But nothing too exciting to report. It was OK but not great.

The tree is in a 7 gal pot, 2nd year old.
I would give it 7 out of 10. Juicy and fully ripe, the taste left me desired for more.

Out of the other figs of the same age trees I tried this year, the BM would probably be at the bottom 3.
The Strawberry Verte, HdA, Adriatic, King, Pastiliere, Panachee, VdB grown under the same conditions were much better.
I hope the next year is going to be better for the Black Madeira and it can live up to the hype.
Sorry, no photos, I was too eager to try The fig...

Very interesting observation. We really like VdB and I was always skeptical about how good BM was supposed to be.

i trust you are correct, that way I will not feel so bad if my BMadeira fails me. it is its first year.

Rich and Grasa,

My VdB is very good also, even when the conditions are not ideal. I think I have not seen a post where somebody would complain about the VdB taste ( but I have seen about the leaf sun allergy ). It could be a case when I need to wait longer before the BM would produce a high quality fig. It just happened that the mostly anticipated fig this year was not that good. I am sure I am not alone here.

?

Yeap, I agree.
