Haikel Lebanese Figs

Here are a few figs from this variety (unk) I found growing in Murray, KY. Some have said it looks like Brunswick. Others have said it is similar to but not Brunswick.

I say it is a cold hardy fig that originates from Bteghrine, Lebanon and it tastes pretty darn good ;) .

What's your opinion on variety?

The parent trees seem to be ripening fruit about three weeks later this year for some reason.

To me, the flavor of this fig sometimes reminds of peaches and other times it seems to have a hint of grapes. The sweetness might be about a 7 out of 10. That's about as good as I can do on describing the flavor.

I hope you enjoy the pics (once you're able to view them :-/ ):

Can you see the images Alan? Just asking 'cause I usually have to re-post to get them to show.

Great! No extra effort needed this time :) .

Absolutely gorgeous Bill!   I love the big pile of fruit, the color, the fruit, the fruit, the fruit.   LOL

Sara,

These figs are pretty good. Unfortunately they aren't from my own tree. The two people in town with this variety were kind enough to share some with me. I'm planning to make a small batch of fig jam with these.

Ahem....save a jar for me!
(I will save some of my fig-gy preserves/makings for you too!)
And, can I say AIRLAYER one of their trees!!   :-)
Why do you have to live in the south part of the state Bill???

Sara,
I will be trying to get cuttings from the three trees in town. Just haven't approached the owners about that yet.

I do have 4 very small suckers on my own tree. Most of them are already promised but the final one just might find it's way to your garden :) .

You are the best!  I am determined to find some other fig people up here.

Sara,

Just keep your eyes peeled for fig trees growing in your area. I think you will eventually spot somebody growing some. I've found several this way. When you do find someone with a fig tree, be sure to ask them if they know of anyone else in the area that grows them. Fig folks tend to know other fig folks :-) .

I am about ready to run an ad in the newspaper!!  Just thought of something,  I will call the area extension offices, they may know some people.

The extension offices may very well be a good thought. I hadn't considered that but they might be of some help.
