Happy Birthday to Johnny Appleseed!Enjoy some apples today (along with them figs). He taught us:
Very nice Creed. Thanks for the contemplative words.Frank
Johnny Appleseed was well-known here. He had a sister here with whom he lived for a while. Every old orchard I come across in this county I imagine was planted by him. We need to teach more not just about events in our history, but the character of the people who form it.
I have a Johnny Appleseed tree.
and the story of how Cody acquired a Johnny Appleseed tree is . . . .
I was at a Raintree Nursery scion grafting class in 2008. And one of the free scions we could choose from was the Johnny Appleseed tree . I like growing Heirloom and odd or unknown Apples varieties . Here is a cool article about how they came to have it.http://www.raintreenursery.com/Johnny_Appleseed_Apple_M7_NC.htmlAND http://www.raintreenursery.com/johnnny_apple_seed.html
I heard that virtually all apples in the US can be traced back to Johnny's work. I like Honeycrisp apples the best. Ooh and green apple fries. Since this is fig forum though, has anyone tried fig fritters. That would be yummy. You can probably tell I haven't eaten yet today.
