Happy Roots!

Here are a few photos of my very first fig rooting experience. The cuttings are the ones I got from my neighbor and are an unknown brown fig.

1) The first shot is of the cuttings in the bag. You can see the date on the bag and compare it with the pic date stamp. Thus deducing how long it took to get good roots going.

2) Second pic is a good shot of the initial roots.

3) Next one is just a look at the media I was potting the cuttings in.

4) Then you get a look at the cut-off 2 liter bottle I used as my "clear cup". Along with another of the same type cutting I potted the same day.

5) Next comes a look at the roots showing through only a week later.

6) Then comes what the roots looked like in the 2 liter on Jan. 4, the day I transferred to the next pot.

7) Last is a photo of the roots just before I potted on to the next pot.

So far the cutting continues to look good and is now putting out some leaflets. I'll post pics of that and others later on.

I hope these photos come out in the order I'm thinking.

Root on, dude!

Well, it looks like all the photos are in the correct order except for the first two. Just switch those 2 and the text should make sense from there - matter of opinion I guess :}.

Thanks Jon. I'm having a few other successes that I'll try to share later on. Starting to see some green leaves on a couple others. Pretty cool stuff!

Your first rooting experience you said , so far sure looks good.
Lots of fun !

This is much better than my rooting experiences.  I have been lucky to get one or two rootlets total on any of my cuttings.  Never had a cutting generate as many roots as yours are showing.  You've got the thumb!

Those are looking great! Congrats!!!

Looking lovely, I have rooted over 50 cuttings in the last 6 months and yet I have not been that lucky to get roots like that in the Baggie Method but I will keep trying until I Do. I think im just too impatient, soon as I see root initials I transfer them into cups.

Martin, Yes the cuttings you see in the bag labled 11/14/09 are the first figs I've ever tried to root.

Jason, texan, & nelson; I've read, listened and learned alot, all from you folks right here on this forum. I've learned very little from any other source but this forum & Jon's site. So, I really owe many thanks to all of you for any success I be having so far. Really, thank you!

nelson, I'm learning that patience may be one of the most important things you can learn from these folks here that have been doing this for awhile.

Having said that, I realize now that I probably waited longer than I needed to on those first cuttings. I just didn't know better :-}. In my limited experience so far I'm seeing that if you at least wait until you see actual roots that are at least about 1/4" long you'll get better results. When I've done it this way, they seem to really take off once you put them in the cups.

I've also been using an old 20 gal aquarium as a mini "greenhouse" with extremely good results. I'll tell more about that, with pics, in a new thread.

n20, I just saw the pic of your dog Champ with the RIP above the photo. What happen to him?

Happy Milk comes from Happy Cows.
Happy Cows come from California.
Happy (fig) Roots come from Kentucky (saxonfig)...

[E: of course; I'm just trying to be funny here.]

LOL! Thanks for running with my thread title there.
Nothing wrong with a good sense of humor gorgi.

That's right, happy roots come from good ol' KY. Just hoping I can keep them happy :-).
