Hard Head

This little guy who's name is Orphan just would not go dormant outside. The only one out of 150 trees. So in he went this morning into the frig. We shall see.

yeah.. some of those young 'uns are stubborn. last two winters, i had few 1 gal cuttings that didn't go dormant, and kept on growing came spring. this yr, we had little cold spell early and almost all of the young plants dropped leave and gone dormant. i left most of them out in below 32 degree before taking them in. few nights of that and that seems to have done the trick.. or maybe they are all dead :)

Pete, this one had been out in 23, 25 and 32 two nights and still would crinkle up at all.

I remember Jon posting somewhere that pulling off the leaves will put them into dormancy...????

Hard head ??   LOL  Must be a Calbrese fig

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but let it grow let it grow let it grow.

My little ones come inside the house in November/December.  They sit in a south facing window and grow all winter long, and are that much further along when it's time to put them into the ground the following Spring.

The picture in the first post with the little fig tree in the fridge reminds me of that joke where the owner of the foul-mouthed parrot puts it in the freezer...
Jim

Just be sure to check the soil moisture once in awhile.  The fridge has a tendency to dry out my foods pretty quickly unless I keep them well wrapped.  Good luck!

Mike, I got 2 like that:

GM-178 THANKS GEORGE!

Potsdammer THANKS JON!

These 2 are in my GH. Temps in GH get no lower than 35 and these 2 guys are not giving up!

Merry Christmas

If they won't go dormancy, why don't just keep them grow for the whole winter ?..... Should they go dormant in the winter ?..... For us in Southeast Asia climate, the fig tree is growing all year round..... That's just my 2cent....
