hard to find figs sold in Canada

I think I already posted this one previously. But, Dany from Brugmansia-quebec.com has some new varieties that Adriano, Grimonut and others do not sell in Canada. I gave him a hand with the descriptions...

I hope this is of interest to anyone...

the varieties in question are

Noire de Carombe, Dorée and Bourjassotte noire/Solliès

he told me he has a few more varieties that are not listed but that will only be added next year.

One thing I learned from him about this business is that things are not always a simple as they sound. We should give more credit to people like Jon and others as this is not always easy.

Michal,

I just emailed them but do you know if they ship to the U.S.?
What size containers are the figs in?

Im in ....lol
i dont think they ship to the states as i looked in shipping info but just see the provinces i think they call them only for Canada usually if someone ship to other countries its mentioned .
Wish or hope im wrong.

Montreal,

Ciao,
I am glad you mentioned this it is not as easy as everyone think it is or could be. I send dozens and dozens of figs out already this year and now with the move, it is really really hard work, and some out there have enough nerve to say I am too pricey sometimes.  What craziness as all of us know the amount of hard work put into this. Not just with us who have this as a business, but everyone knows how it is growing things from sticks and keeping them alive and healthy then packaging and sending.Sometimes different varieties won't root for months, you know the care and tenderness having to keep them in certain conditions and keeping them healthy. I can only speak for myself, but with son, cleaning the house and cooking, husband, 3 jack russell terrier dogs and the figs on top, its alot, alot of work.  I enjoy it though and know it will expand and I look forward to every bit of it in future. Next time someone wants to complain about a price, they should realize what goes into this whole situation. I would and have paid plenty for figs and know the hard work involved, hence why I don't complain about these things.  Especially sending international and dealing with certificates and licenses ect ect, did all that done.  Just had the agriculture department here going through each of my fig trees with a fine tooth comb making sure I pass to take them just into Florida.  I passed with flying colors he said and issued me three certificates I need to show to border agriculture people when enter florida.  Wow, I am happy it worked out well, but he was outside for at least an hour with a little magnifying glass going through all my trees, looking for any bug or disease. He found nothing.
Ciao ciao

Rafed: to give you an idea I will take a picture tomorrow of a container he gave me. However, he only sells in Canada at the monent. He still has to figure out how the paperwork works to do this kind of stuff.

Maggie: I recently went to a wholesale auction house for flowers. Most of the flower shops owners in Montreal go there to get their supplies. What I discovered there was that whole sale prices are ridiculously low. Small example a dozen of roses for 3 dollars and some other nice looking flowers were sold for 60 cents for a package of flowers. Other potted flowers were sold at around a dollar. You obviously will say that flower shops can get a huge profit margin from this (true if they get to sell all the flowers). But, my thoughts are with the producers who have to produce huge volumes to make a profit.

Obviously, flowers from South America or Africa have role to play in pushing the prices down. ..

Finding figs there is easier than finding figs here in Japan....I still haven't seen a single fig tree yet.

こんにちは americanfigboy!

They are out there but you will have get outside of Tokyo and drive south.

On top of that some skills of Japanese will be required as not everyone outside the cities speaks English.

I am sure there must be some kind of nurseries that sell figs online in Japan.

If you would ever be interested and have the time and resources I could try to help you out by giving you some directions on how to get to some fig plantations.

Of Course I would love to find one of those nurseries around here. I seen a lot of greenhouses flying in by looking out the window so I know they're out here. Right now I'm at Yokota AFB. I have walked around the area but found none.

ありがとう Montreal

several fig plantations are in the Aichi prefecture.

if you want to buy a fig tree see this link

I was just scratching the surface and I am sure there is more. With a bit of research I am sure you will find other ones.

GOOD find Montreal Fig. Will check out the website.

Damn Dany didnt have these when I ordered the other plants last month.

Wonder why the dates changed to 2011 now???

told me that everything is sold-out so anyone who wants to place a new order will have to wait until early 2011.

Oh I feel stupid now, glad I got my order in early hehehe.

Figboy, in 1952-53 I used to send aviation gas and jet fuel to Yokota.  I was at the time NCOIC at what had been an old CalTex terminal in Yokohama.  I expect is is some different now.

I don't recall seeing any fig trees in Yokohama or anywhere else in Japan, but I'm sure that I just did not know where to look.

Nelson,

He did respond to my question way back then.
I hope he did reserve my plants for me. If I don't hear from him soon then I will email him and ask for the status.

Hey Rafed when I emailed Dany last week he told me it would still take a month as he wanted to make sure they were well rooted. Did you get a reply yet?

Nelson,

You got PM
