Hardy Chicago Breba Fig Video Review

Thanks Wei. The climate here is pretty awesome for figs. We have a long harvest season and the figs are very sweet. It took me some time to figure out how to properly water the figs trees in this climate, but now I have a watering routine that works well.

Too bad about your Hardy Chicago. Hopefully this year it regrows a good shape and size so that you get many figs from it in years to come.

Thanks for Posting, I had 2 small brebas of Sal's EL and they say it is the same or similar to Chicago Hardy. It had a berry taste. Does your Chicago have a berry taste...????

Hi Joe
Nice HC brebas.
How much do you water in your location? I think you can save some water by using some wood chips mulch...

Armando to me HC has a very strong rich fig flavor.   It is not as much berry in my opinion as is VdB.  The flavor of HC is pure fig, and very strong and complex.  Sometimes I get a hint of peach in the background, but not really berry.  That is what my tastebuds pick up.  But maybe it would be different on someone else's palate.

Eli I water deeply with drip irrigation once a week.  I also give the trees some water from the hose halfway through the week to keep them happy until the next irrigation.  I put wood chips down around the trees every spring, but bermuda grass grows over it and the soil just seems to eat the wood chips up.  The soil is very rich around the trees and full of worms and bugs.  I could probably add more mulch again mid summer to help shade the roots some more, but I never get around to it.

Hi FrozenJoe,
Thanks for showing that fig.
My brebas are still waiting to ripen... Patience ... Pateince !

They are worth the wait.  Enjoy.

Joe, that's a nice breba. You inspired me to go check my HC to see if I had overlooked some, but no such luck. Maybe next year. Lots of main crop coming along, though, so I anticipate a very good season.

Ken the Hardy Chicago tree surprised me this year with all the brebas on it.  That hasn't been typical in previous years.

Thank You Joe, Hope my Chicago Hardy produces a good crop.
