Hative d'Argenteuil Fig

Hello friends, looking for someone who can share a few cuttings of this variety. Would like to hear your experience in growing this one. Thanks, Leon

Leon, would it be the same as " Native De Argentile"?  I read about it at the UC Davis portal - it intrigued me.

Yes, it appears synonymous. Thank you for asking.

Leon, If it is one and the same ad the Native de A that is at Davis, then it is an excellent fig. I lost my tree last year, so an starting over. Didn't seem to take well to the hot-cold cycles we had last summer. But the fruit is top notch.

Jon,  When you say the fruit is top notch, do you mean it's rich and figgy or berry flavored or honey flavored or just good fruit that doesn't split and is a nice size?

Thanks!

Suzi

i placed order with UCD on this one. not sure if i'll get it or not. this year, i placed order for about 10 and got 5. will find out in march.

I sampled these at ucdavis while visiting with Jon a couple year ago. They are very rich and good tasting. But i don't remember what happen to myssmall tree. I don't think it was a good grower.

I put it on next year's order to arrive in spring of 2014, and I'm an early girl.  Get the order in early.  Lots on it.  Wonder why it doesn't grow well.  You'd think in San Diego it would.  It might love the hot desert where I live.  I'll give it a whirl!

Suzi

Suzi, "top Notch" means makes your tastebuds happy, really happy.

Leon, sent you an email.

I think that I do have it somewhere in my recent fig pile/mess...

NdA is an exceptional fig!  Very sweet, very rich, a little tough skin but definately an awesome fig.  I got one tree that's 4 years old and around 6' in a 30gal container.  I got 2 other small ones, one  in 2gal and in 1 gallon pot.  Al 3 came from UCD.  Definately a keeper!  Those tasted at UCD this year were awesome and same for last year.  Not a huge tree but who cares!  Here are a few pics.  Enjoy!

Leon, if Gorgi can't find one for you, send me a PM.

Leon here is thread about it. I took down the pictures but still have them on disk.
I did not think the taste stood out compared to others in my yard so tree was destroyed .

I rooted one this year but it also looks like the first  Barnissotte fig I had this year.

Thank you, each and everyone of you for your generous reply.
Pit- beautiful photo as always. It sounds like it would be an excellent fig to grow. Early as well.
Thank you Dennis.

Quick question- any info on the name of this fig?

from what i have read this is a fig from a suburb in paris called argenteuil. for whatever reason i thought it was from argentina for longest time.

Yeah all that I know- but the name doesn't show up anywhere but here or UCDavis. All it means is early.  Really I answered my own question. But it goes by Violette d'Argenteuil there in France.

I'd also be available to help, Leon, if others cannot.

Dom, as mentioned, Argentile is the location, Hâtive is "early". So "early of Argentile", basically. This is the explanation from several French coworkers.

Doh! You answered already.

Yeah talked to French fig collector. It is in a fig conservation on the island of Porquerolles off of Marseilles.  According to him it goes by Violette, but it just semantics anyway. ;-)

It's a very beautiful fig. The color defies description! The more I find out about French varieties the more I feel they are the best of all.

Does anyone have any cuttings or figlets of this they would be willing to share? I would be more than happy to pay for it. I am intrigued by the descriptions :)
