Hative D'Argenteuil fig

Good day, picked a few of these today. I had to move my tree close to my truck because the coon were trying to break my tree. The figs were very sweet and rich. A definite keeper. It's a 9! At UCD, these figs are a light violet color but same sweetness and rich flavor.

Thanks,

Looks good Dennis. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting this Dennis. Mine is very young and and I'm thrilled to hear you rate it as a 9 - rich and sweet!

This fig came highly rated on charts i saw .
But on personal palate it was a loser and discarded not due to climate either as i can ripen a madeira
to absolute perfection in a container.

Your kinda reminding me of Rafed and some  other members who will eat any ole fig !       ROFL.

shh don't tell Rafed.

Ha! Yeap, that fig was rich!

Martin you know you want one.

Dennis lol .
Perhaps James pee would make them taste better or according to him at least keep
the critters away as you can read here in this thread

Just gross in my opinion.

I am over the moon being able to see one of these that someone actually ate. Thank you so much Dennis! It's beautiful!

Tami, yours will be much better looking and I hope equally tasting !

Martin, that is so funny! I can't pee on my trees. Heck I got too many!!!!

Tami, its one of those figs that you don't hear too much about. It does require a long summer of heat. My tree has more figs on it and they are trying to ripen. But this is a bad year for figs in my climate. For the entire month of June we had 7 inches of rain. FOr the month of July, we had 7 inches of rain. For the month of August, September and up to today, we've only had an inch and half of rain. This really messed up my figs trying to ripen this year. Two thousand and ten was one of my best year for figs. In March of that year, we had 90 degree temperatures and they continued throughout that summer; not this year!

At UCD the figs are a greyish violet. Violet being much lighter than purple. My figs are red with yellow stripes. Usually this time of the year it is very hot and dry in Charlotte. Well, we got dry but it cooling down fast. Morning are in the late 50s and noon day its 75 degrees and cloudy but no rain. So, my figs are still trying to ripen and many of my figs are dropping leaves and putting on fresh ones and trying to produce another crop! GO FIGURE!!!

Like Greenfig said, this fig growing in your area should do fantastic. I sent a forum member a tree a few months a go. I might have another one. I'm doing inventory this weekend. If I find one I'll contact you and send it. In the meantime, here is how the tree and figs look at UCD.

Thanks!

Dennis,
I would be over the moon to have one. I really don't know why but I have an affinity to all figs Argenteuil.
We have had a lot of rain as well this year but I think my inexperience was more to blame than weather for the poor harvest. We are still around 78F overnight but daytime has cooled down to the mid 90"s, virtual cold front :)

I am just so excited to see these pictures! Thank you.

dennis, does your HdA always look like that or is it 1st yr fig in our less than optimal weather this yr? my VdB didn't look like last yr's VdB, nor Paradiso Gene. maybe when we have our typical NC weather back, the HdA will look better. only real reason i got HdA this yr was the beautiful fig it makes. i heard martin didn't even like this one.. and it's dark fig. lol

Pete, mine is usually the same as UCD. We are having an early Fall now. My VdB figs look like Martin's but the don't taste good.

Thats cause your eating them NdA and thinking there the Vdb's . lol

In the cool weather spell that often happens this time of year let them hang on even thought they look ripe and pick when there pillow soft.

Often they look ripe with hangmans neck and all indicators but are still firm cause of the cool nights just wait until nice and feather pillow soft, i would use another term but the forum ladies may get insulted !

Course with the paleface ones theres no hope. ; )~

This is very true Martin, my Colisanti Dark has lots or hangmans necks but if I pick them right now they will be too acidic, not juicy or very sweet and disappointing, if I leave them how you are describing they get the flavour, but this year not as sweet as previous years.
