Have You Ever... (my FB status)

...been driving and had a strange fear there was a snake by the pedals of your car?

So today, I am on the tractor mowing the field between two rows of my fig trees. I look down and see a snake (the snake my nephew and I thought had fallen out of the engine compartment) poking it's head out through the gear selector of the tractor. I jumped back in my seat and watched it slither out from the rubber boot and around the steering wheel. I couldn't let go of the steering wheel because I didn't want to run over any of my trees. I maneuvered through the field steering with only the very bottom (6 o'clock) on the steering wheel while the snake poked it's head through the spokes of the wheel and hissed at me. Finally, it turned back up the hood of the tractor and fell off. The last I saw of it, it was passing under the shredder on the back. Good times.

James,

Glad to hear it became instant fertilizer!

James my wife had such an experience of a snake around the pedal of the car. I can't even begin to tell the story about what happened but let me tell you she abandoned ship fast. I wasn't there, it was only her and the two kids and the only reason she stopped the car first before bailing is because of the kids.

I am used to having a show on the tractor.  Usually, when the tractors are going birds of prey fly overhead waiting for the critters that live in the prairie weeds to run out.  It is not uncommon to see a bird fly off with a small rabbit or something.

I think it was a rat snake.  I knew it wasn't poisonous (well pretty sure) but I didn't want it to bite me just the same.  I did not have a strategy for exiting the tractor.  There is no way to stand up without having the ol' private parts being right above the steering wheel.

Gene, it was pretty unnerving even having seen the snake in engine compartment before and knowing (pretty sure) it wasn't poisonous.  I'm sure your wife's experience was far worse.

James,

Just glad to hear all's well.

Thanks Rafed.
