Heads UP! Big Lots has cheap Greenhouses!

I bought the $30 one for my little rooted cup cuttings to introduce them to dappled sun.  I love it!

Suzi

oh wow suzi, looks incredible, I love a good saving.

Jennifer

Cool, hope they put them in the stores near me!!

Who knew so many people read this forum?  Their site crashed d/t high traffic.

I saw them at Big Lots a couple of months ago and decided not to get it.

Suzi, where do you keep it?  I was afraid it was going to be something cheaply made

Bob - this site crashed?!  I am not surprised with the amount of posts from the Fig Lotto and the Fig SuperBowl Pool!!   Exciting stuff going on here!

My only concern would be to support or anchor it in some way so that it doesn't blow over in this weird weather we seem to constantly be having.  I guess if you put the heavier pots in the bottom that would help.

$30 for 19" 4 level metal shelves is not bad, I assume the plastic would not hold up to UV for too many seasons. They have been on Amazon for several years. Running $33 there.

Your Big Lots might have them in the garden section.  I looked and looked, and finally located them in stacks of cardboard boxes.  They didn't have one on display, so you really have to look.  The box is white with a big green square and a photo of the greenhouse.

Rewton, I am going to put the heavier pots on the bottom, and secure it next to a palm tree (which will provide dappled sun).  Our winds always blow from the west, and if I know they are coming, we'll just move the pots to the garage, and bring the greenhouse in there too.  Car can stay outside :-)).  I have so many baby plants from extra cuttings that rooted and grew, that I needed a nice place for them to be happy until I can pot them into one gallon or put them in-ground.

I was really happy to find a greenhouse at those prices!

Suzi

that would be a nice indoor greenhouse for the cuttings and some of our new found love for carinvorous plants (CP).

Doug, that is a great tip on how to transition plants out of the greenhouse!

Thanks!
Suzi

Great Buy Suzi!   After one season, you're gonna want a bigger one and the another bigger one!  Looks like you have the GH bug!  I built this for around $900.  It's 6x8.  I paid $499 for the kit but the foundation (gravel, weed guard timbers, pavers) cost me around $400.  I did not have to go all out on the foundation but I did not want a dirt floor or gravel floor.  Plus I wanted the GH to heat up fast when the sun hits it.  Being in zone 8a, the GH warms up very fast.

I love this Gh but I'm planning on building a new one that 10 x22 in this same spot.  One thing to consider when building a GH is to build it 3x your normal requirements.  That's a big lesson learned for me.

WOW ! cool little green house for indoors . i love BigLots !

Exactly, the little ones heat up fast and easy to fry everything in it

Got one for overflow of more established plants. Almost 6' square for $69.

WARNING.

The one that is about 5-1/2 feet square.

First day after assembly, and it is 11:30 and it has collapsed. Plastic connectors get soft and the metal tubes pull out. I had it full of 1g pots. Probably if you put 10-12 pots in it it would be OK. Can't probably take much more weight than that.

Might make a new frame from PVC and keep the cover. Or I might take it back. The rest is trash.

I picked up a small one today for $20 at Big Lots!  I am also going to start my seeds for the garden inside - grow my own transplants instead of buying them.
