Healthy Roots on Cutting?

Hi All,

I started this cutting a few weeks ago in water, could you tell me if this cutting looks healthy.

Also, do you think it is time to move the cutting to a growing medium, I have seen earlier posts where folks have said too early can cause you to lose the cutting.

I attached a link to the photos below:

Thank you all in advance.

Looks fine to me. And yes I'd move it to a well draining soil mix.

Yes, it is okay to move. I actually move the cuttings that I have rooted in water to a soil (or soil-less) mix sooner, when the roots are still white (and about the diameter or yours). All that I have done this to have survived and are growing well.

when the roots start turning brown like that, they are usually more sturdy, and able to handle going in a light soil mixture. I remember a forum member cutting off an air-layer when the roots were still white, and they broke right off when he started to manipulate the cutting.

I usually plant the water rooted cuttings in the potting mix when the roots are only about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. So, this prevents most of the breakage.

Thanks guys, I was concerned that they were not healthy when they started to change color.

what do you guys use for medium?

Dom

I use Pro-Mix, it works best on my cuttings.

yes they look okay to me good luck
