Heaven...............

It is finally here: fig perfection - the first Black Madeira of the season. Perfect!! It was everything I remembered it to be and everything it is supposed to be.

Thanks Jon for the good news. How many did you pick? Are you able to tell how productive this variant is at this point in time. I hope the only BM fruit don't drop after my olive oil treatment.

I picked exactly one today. Second one is splitting. The tree has grown about 10' this season, and new wood is more than 1" in diameter at the bottom. Hundreds of figs on it, some just begining to form with no end in sight. We will have a week of hot weather (90-100+) starting today, so hopefully more will ripen before we get a cold week which brings ripening to an end. After first cool weather, they will continue to ripen, but will never have the sweetness and flavor again, even if warm weather returns.

Even the one was to die for.

Holly molly, hundreds of figs !!! I better reserve a spot in my patio for a special enclosure like some italians  friends did for their favourite variant. I thought they were crazy but now I know. Thanks Jon, glad I asked.

Thanks Jon for posting the madeira pictures its nice to see them and sounds like your tree is doing well.
Good!

Enjoyed number 3 today. No more showing signs of ripening. Several hundred on the tree, and it is still setting fruit at the end of 8' of growth this season. Some of this season's wood is over 1" thick already. One dose of fertilizer in April, and not that much, either. Twice the growth of any previous year.
