Hello from newbie in Kanas City

Hello all,
New to this so be gentle when I show my ignorance please!

I've been watching the forums since last year when I bought a fig tree at a local nursery.  After I bought one, I bought another.  Then bought three more last week.  I get the allure!  Both of the trees I bought at the nursery produced fruit last summer, and the fruit and taste took me back to California where I grew up.  Pretty and tasty indeed.
Alas, I ended up in Kansas City and no one I know has fig trees or plants here.  I am doing the potted plants this year, my new figs are Chicago Hardy so plan on keeping them in pots this year then maybe in the ground next year.  The trees I got last year are Black Jack and Mission, definitely will be potted.

Just wanted to say hi to all and it's been so very informative and encouraging to read up more.  Looking forward to learning much more!

Marie

Welcome to our obsession Marie. We all love company.

Welcome ...I'm new too. Started this year

Welcome! I am also new this year.

Marie, welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum a great place to learn

Welcome to the forum and looking forward to future pictures.

Welcome! Great to have more of us newbies asking questions - helps me to learn the answers to questions I should be asking too!

Welcome to the forum!

Hello Marie,
Welcome to the forum community.

Welcome from another KC person.  We have a bunch of fig growers within a few hundred miles.  Some are on the forum, some aren't.

Where did you buy your fig trees?  Heartland Nursery has some large ones for good prices.  If you want to meet there I can show you a great one to get and how to get it for less  :)

welcome.

Marie,
Welcome to the forum.  Hope the weather did no harm, god bless those with losses.
I will wager a box of Newtons that if you ride around the older neighborhoods and the smaller farms you will find the trees.  Once you spot one from the road you will be amazed how your eye will develop to seeing them.  Once you see them, you will want cuttings, and you will want to know what they are, and you will talk lovingly to your successes, and curse your failures.  You will bore your friends with the same type stories of a new grandchild.

You are now possessed/ill with Ficus Addictus (I invented the term and made the tee shirt) and these symptoms will prevail.  Fear not, accept your fate, you are among friends.

Welcome, Marie.

WELCOME!!!

Finally....more females joining the group!!!!

The world is a better place when we have more women!  Where are the rest of the gals?

Again, welcome and get ready to make more space in your yard for more figs!!!!  They are addicting!!!!  Trust me.

Again, welcome and enjoy.

Welcome to the forum!  I grew up in a very rural area in your neck of woods and the two "big cities" in our area were Omaha to the north and Kansas City to the south.  There was plenty of gardening but growing figs was unheard of.  When I think of folks growing figs in your part of the country it makes me smile.

Aloha, Marie!  Welcome to the forum.  Lots of wonderful people and sage advice here.

Nate

Hi Marie, nice to have you here! Where in CA did you grow up?
Gary in CA

Welcome from another So. Californian!  It's hard to believe, but the only fig tree I've seen in this town is a huge Black Mission at our local nursery.

Looking forward to pics of your figs!

Suzi

Welcome to the fun!

":)" = "You distract them while I make a run for it with the tree"

Welcome!
Lots to learn lots to share. Let the fun begin.

Welcome Marie.
Yes it's nice to have another lady on board.  I'm one too.  :-)  Soni= Alessandra  I'm a yearling here. IDK if that still qualifies as a newbie but I still have alot to learn.

Goodness you all!  Thank you everyone for welcoming me to the fold.  I never expected such a warm welcome.  No way I can thank everyone, wow you guys!
I'll go back and answer the questions posed and make comments here and there.

I don't get on the laptop every day so I may go a few days without responding...doesn't mean I am ignoring or not interested though.  I'll have to see if I can reply with my phone to posts, probably can...just never have done that!

oh and yes, I do have a few pictures of my two fig trees that got me started last year!  They'll show up sometime!  One is just getting her new baby leaves and I got so excited!

So happy to be here, you all rock!

Marie
