Hello everyone, I have been reading all the post for several days now, it's very addictive, I have a 2 acre garden that hasn't been planted in several years, I will be planting fig trees on it in rows, I'm in zone 8, in north Louisiana. The few fig trees I have are starting to get leaves on them, I'm ready to plant them in ground, how far apart should I plant them so I can get the most out of my land. Thanks.

Hi and welcome. I live in south louisiana. I have a 1 acre field. I planted mine around 10 foot apart but if you keep them pruned maybe you can go less. Where are you in Louisiana. I am in slidell area

Thank you! I was thinking 10 feet, but I've never grown fig trees, so I wasn't sure, I need to keep the rows far apart enuf to bush-hog between em. I live in Haughton, it's north-east of Shreveport, Happy to meet a fellow fig lover in my neck of the woods.

I am just across the state line in Waskom, Tx.  I had originally planted 12 trees 15ft apart but I had to pull 6 because the soil was too wet due to being too low (6" lower than the other trees) and clay content.  I add the part about the clay because around here most fig trees will not last beyond 3-4 yrs and I think it is the lack of drainage that causes it.

dkirtexas thanks for that I have some good soil on top but under that, about 7" Is just red clay. Some spots hold water after a rain. Glad my garden is high ground.

Welcome!  There are approximately 3,578 named fig varieties and you'll undoubtedly want them all.  You might need another acre.
