Hello/figs/NW AR/ hoophouse

My name is Marshall, I'm in northwest Arkansas. I'm looking to possibly grow figs in my hoop houses/ hightunnels.

My dad has a fig tree that dies off at the ground every year and we were thinking about trying them in our hoop houses.

I'm wanting to grow them for market and myself.

Can y'all let me know how you think figs will do in a high tunnel, what varieties I should look for and an idea on spacing?

Thanks in advance.

Also if anyone is around NWA or has some cuttings I can start playing with please let me know. Thank You.

You should consult with GreenFin about hoop houses. He grows bananas in his sunken hoop houses in cold Kansas.  There's probably some useful info on his blog:  http://www.greenfingardens.com/

Welcome Marshall

Use the search feature, there have been a number of posts and videos about growing figs in greenhouses and high tunnels and hoop houses over the past few years.  It can be done!

It will help us know what to tell you if you also include your growing zone.  NW AR is hilly if I remember correctly and so even though you're S of me you may be in a colder zone.  Or maybe not, I don't know  :)

Also, Greenfin's tunnels are heated by his aquaponics system.  Will you be heating yours?

Welcome fellow Arkie. Do some looking into cold hardy varieties. You may not be confined to hoops. There's some resources listed on my blog http://www.figsfortsmith.com

An unheated hoop house could be worse than outdoors. It will wake the figs up in winter and then freeze them off. They do great in a heated greenhouse. But there can be issues with humidity, water control, and resultant watery fruit.
