I bought a Smith plant off of eBay, healthy enough other than these small red spots on the leaves. Based on similar threads, it looks like rust to me, but I haven't experienced it before so hoping someone can confirm or deny. 

If it is rust, would you recommend removing the leaves and/or spraying with a particular fungicide? It's not on the newer top growth, so maybe removing the lower infected leaves would be helpful. I don't want it to spread to my other figs. I see that some recommend Neem oil with varying reports of success, and am curious to know how well that or other products have worked for you. Thanks!

   

You can use neem oil or copper fungicide to treat rust. Honestly, my trees get some of it every year and I just try to improve ventilation, sunlight, and water more carefully (i.e. avoid getting the leaves wet). I've found that removing the severely damaged leaves is a good way to treat it without spraying. Avoid pulling off the leaves though; you don't want to damage the fruit node. You can club off the leaf were the stem attaches to the leaf. Then the little piece of stem that remains will dry out and fall off on its own. Hope this helps
