Hello, newbie here.

I got a fig plant not in its best shape.  The person I got it from couldn't tell me the variety name.  He claimed to have brought the rooting from China five years ago. 

I have attached couple of photos.  Appreciate if someone could help me identify this variety.

   

I like the leaf shape but you will need to post some photos of the figs to get an idea on the possible variety.

Pino,  unfortunately the guy I got the plant from said his fig plants have never fruited in the last five years he has been growing them :(.

Perhaps due to the short growing season.  I am in Ottawa (zone 4).

Nice large container but the tree looks stressed. 
Either too much sun or too much/or not enough water or it needs to be root pruned and re-potted. 
Ottawa gets nice hot summers so the fig should produce and ripen figs if it is a common cultivar.

That is the thing that worries me, I am not even sure if it's a common fig.  But given the guy went through the trouble of bringing the roots from China, I tend to hope it's.

I bought the big pot when I went to pick up the plant.  I will do a root prune and repot after work today.

Maybe ficus johannis/afghanististica? Some of these "Persian Mountain Fig" varieties have been collected for foliage mostly. Although, apparently this guy's does produce: http://exoticplants.ovo.bg/forum/6-438-1

Thanks Rick for the info.  The leaves of this plant do look somewhat like those of a ficus johannis/afghanististica. 

Just got a bit more info from the original owner.  He actually started the plants from germinating seeds from some dried figs brought back from China.  After having read briefly online, it seems that might be the reason why this plant has not bore any fruits.  And it might never, it seems.

I am keeping it because it's a beautiful tree.
