My little one, and I do mean the smallest plant I have, was assaulted today. This cutting was started in February or March and up-potted into the black planter in May. It immediately popped three figs. I removed one and let the others stay. Three days ago I happened to see the top fig was turning brown.
Two days ago it was turning more purplish and getting soft.
Sunday morning, one day ago, it had started to droop and was beginning to soften, so I pulled out the trusty organza bag to protect my precious first ever home grown fig.
Monday morning as I walk out of the house...
...plant knocked to the ground, no fig in sight, organza bag disgarded...
...with nothing but crumbs. Sad, sad start to a Monday morning.
I was really looking forward to slicing that little fig open so I could post pictures of the inside to get some help with ID. There is still the mother tree, but she belongs to someone else.
Here's a picture of my little figgy's sibling.
One more:
The mother tree goes through the winter with zero protection, dies back, but resurrects itself in the spring. It's been in the ground, according to the owner, since before '78. Any help at identifying the variety of fig would be greatly appreciated.
**Will post pictures of ripe fig when possible.
