Help identifying my Figs

Hi I am new to the site but I have been reading the posts for a while and have been learning allot from this site. I've been collecting a few different types of Fig trees for a while and have been wondering what variety they are?  I purchased them in Long Island  Maybe someone knows the actual variety that these are? Thanks in advance, Dave

Dave welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't help with the ID of your fig. I agree with Alan the the fig on the left looks way under ripe and the one on the right is closer to being ripe. Good luck on the ID. I've been searching for the ID of a fig of mine for a few years and have almost given up, and have decide to name it myself until a time when it can be positively ID'ed.
"gene"

Welcome to the forum, Dave! As gene said, post pics when the fruit is completely ripe and be sure to include a shot of the eye at the bottom. Enjoy!

Dave--welcome! I can't help with the ID either--sorry. Is that coin in the second photo a quarter? If so, whatever variety that fig might be, it looks quite large, which might help with the ID. What other varieties are you growing, and how long have you been at it?

Yeah I probably picked it too soon I was having a big problem with chipmunks getting them before I could, I'll take another picture when I get more fruit.

101 looks like it could be Brown Turkey, but heavily underripe.

In fact, all of the figs I am seeing on this thread look like they are picked at least 1-2 weeks too early.

Alan, I did some searching on the internet for photos of Gillette figs, every photo I've seen of the leaves and the fruit look like it  to me, it even described them as not being  super sweet and inside being very white and serrated around the edge of the leaves,  Describes mine to a tee, I realize that fig is not 100% ripe but the ones that were match that description

Thanks Alan I think this might be it.

Here's a photo I found on the internet

Jason Do the brown turkey figs get that large? These are pretty big figs,

Yes, they do get that large.  See:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=4767918

I was going to say that the 'pawprint' leaf looked like Gilette, but didn't want alan to think I was joking at his expense.

Thank you Jason, I guess I know now what my 2 mystery trees are.

Why do I read so much negative stuff  on the internet about the Brown Turkey Fig? Is it because it is so common? I find it to be a very tasty fig not the sweetest I've ever eaten but not bad.

Well, I can only speak to the one I bought which was sourced from Monrovia nurseries.

Mine tastes like crap.  It is sweet, watery, no richness, no extraordinary flavor, and generally speaking, there are a thousand figs out there which taste a hundred times better, so to be frank .... I don't have time for Brown Turkey.

Generally speaking, amongst fig enthusiasts, Brown Turkey is one of the worst tasting figs of all time.

The seeds look allot larger than the brown turkey seeds that I have, the picture isn't that great I'll have to wait for more fruit to ripen, but here's a close up

Thanks for all the help identifying these Dave

As mentioned in post #8, it looks to me like all of the figs you are showing us are being picked weeks too early.

To me a  fig should droop and feel soft, Squeezed should give and leave a small dimple. Eye may split a bit but if becomes star like broken may be over ripen. Pick immediately. Takes no take to go from under ripe to over ripen.

This is my experience from being a kid and picking straight off a tree.

Good article Alan, I actually had a couple that fell off the tree, can't get no riper than that, they were very good and they weren't over ripened, when the next crop that comes I'll put some pictures

Dave, did you get these from a guy named Messina (from craigs list?).  If so I have one of them.  It produces more brebas than any of my figs other than desert king.  I don't think it's brown turkey but will keep a close eye on it this growing season.

here a couple of more photos from last year
