Help IDing a Fig

My Grandfather brought this type of fig from the central part of Italy 60 years ago when he moved here. He brought cuttings and planted them hoping they would survive. He has two trees in the ground, one that is approx. 15 feet tall and now i have two trees in pots. I am just wonder a variety. Thanks for any help.

articquad, welcome to the forum. To get an ID you might have to give a few more clues. One would be a picture of the most common leaf on the tree. The second would be a picture of a nice ripe fig showing it from all directions including the eye. Third instead of showing a fig that has a bite taken out of it, and it does look good, take a sharp knife and slice it in half right through the stem and the eye. There are some real sharp fellows here, but I'm not one of them. Good luck on your quest your Grandfather's fig looks to be a good one.

Hi Articquad,
maybe also show tree in pot so the forum can see many of the leaves on your tree.
Also that fig with bite taken out is that one of the 2 figs in your picture that was picked ?
I ask because i can see green in the skin of that  partial eaten fig in picture and the ones on tree look like they would get nice dark skin with no green.

LOL on the bite photo :-)

It will probably end up being an  unknown variety and call it after your grandfather as many of us who have heirloom varieties with no specific variety name.

Yes this is true Alan in some cases.

But if that fig with bite is one of those two picked from tree then no because those 2 figs are in early ripening stages for sure - but some folks dont like em soft and fully ripe .

Thats why i asked if it was one of those 2 figs. If not then yes its displays a type of two tone color if it was fully ripe.
The pictures on left were taken at 5:06 and the biten fig at 5:07 very possible with camera.
Pick, bite and snap picture.

Thanks for all the input. I took those pictures last year in late August when the figs where ripening off of my then 3 year old tree....now its 4 years old. When i get a chance i will photograph the tree and more ripe figs when available. As for the two tone, yes they seem to be two tone because if i let them sit on the tree till they fall off they never turn purple all the way. I picked some brebas from my grandfathers trees a week or two ago and they where the same way, purple and green, fully ripe. Thanks again everyone.

Thanks for replying back.
Alan your absolutely right thats a two tone kinda like the mid fifty chevy's in a day when 1 could tell the cars apart rather easily.  ; )
