Help, my figs are disappearing.

I'm so mad right now. I just recently bought an Alma that is about 4' tall and already had two figs on it . Last week one one disappeared and now today the larger one is gone. I have a feeling that it is the chipmunk that is always running around in my yard, but it could be birds or squirrels. I searched the forum and have seen some different methods . Is there any safe way to deter the chipmunks and squirrels?

Well you need to get those plastic thingies that come with berries, and clamp them around the fig.

Don't know of any way to deter them, only trap or bang bang.

The plastic thing for the berries is a good idea , thanks Suzi.

You could try bird netting, not sure how well it will work for them though.

There are a lot of threads on here about using the plastic snap berry/veggie containers over the fruit.  It isn't always figs.  It could be peaches, apricots, you know?  We do have enemies out there.  They have wings.

I will NEVER feed them!  EVER!

The roots are my problem!  Gophers!  Yep!  Got the gopher cages, and the vole cages on top, but how or when does it stop?

With a 22?

It also could be the spring crop dropping off due to temperature drops or they were not meant to stay. My Alma lost 50% of hers this week due to nightime temps.

Squirrels leave the fruit stem in my experience.

Alma produces few to no brebas according to LSU so that is probably it.

My Alma has some breba that survived and look strong to stay. Should ripen very early in July here.

I wrap netting a few times around the fig(s) and branch, and secure the netting with clothes pins.
Other wise the birds or rodents usually get at it right before its fully ripe.

Rodent relocation program. Get yourself a small have-a-heart trap and put it somewhere near your trees. Chipmunks love wheat thins. Catch them and release them a couple mikes away. Keep doing it until they're gone. Rodent relocation.

Thanks for all the ideas, I'll let you know how it works out.
