HELP new fig tree owner

Hi,

I live in Montreal, Canada.

I was given this wonderful baby fig tree last fall (i think it is an italian fig). It has looked pretty miserable all winter with 3 partially green leaves (our apartment is cold so I thought maybe it was semi dormant). Now that it is spring I was hoping to see some signs of life but am not sure what to look for. There are a few bud-looking things on the main trunk but they haven't changed in weeks. I tried to attach pictures but can't figure out how to make them small enough.

Any suggestions for how to manage my tree? It is in my sunniest window. I've tries Espoma citrus tone (5-2-6) as fertilizer a few weeks ago.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like it needs some heat.  Mine stopped growing indoors after a few months during the winter.  As soon as they went outside and they discovered their natural habitat, they started budding everywhere.  We had a spell of lower 80s° and humidity for a week or two and they woke up again.  Welcome, by the way!

Thanks for the reply. It's still going down to below 10C here at night
But maybe I can put it on the deck when we get a nice sunny day and try to jump start it.

I even knitted it a pot cosy this winter because I thought it might be cold... I hope it forgives me!

How often do you water when the plant is waking up from dormancy?

Figs do NOT like a lot of water.  Get a water meter, and do NOT water until the meter shows barely damp.  All figs go dormant in winter, unless they are inside in the light, which confuses them greatly.

Just be sure you don't over-water.

Welcome!  The fig may be slow to wake up.  Fertilizer (houseplant strength) may help.

Welcome to the forum scsr!

Hi, welcome. These are the instructions that i used to resize a photo.  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Simple-Resize-Picture-6098502?highlight=resize+photo

Hi Everyone. This forum is amazing. Thank you for all the replies/welcomes.

Here are the pictures. Can anyone tell me if what i see on the trunk will be real buds? (they haven't changed size in >1month)

I have tried fertilizer about 1 month ago (espoma citrus tone 5-2-6)
I have a water meter for most of my plants...but haven't invested for my fig tree yet (looks like i'll need it!)

Thanks again,
Sig
