Help with ID

Hi all.  Was wondering if anyone could help me with identification of the young tree in the photo below.  I was under the impression it was a fig as it appeared to be coming off as a shoot from a known fig tree. I have been told by several others that it is either a maple or oak, but not a fig.

Is it possible to definitely rule out this as a fig tree?  I know it can be difficult to identify, and particularly since there are no fruit yet and the leaves aren't fully developed.  The leaves BTW are also fuzzy/velvety if that helps.

Thanks for any help.

If this is a Ficus, it is not Ficus Carica.

Looks like an Oak species

Blackjack Oak. http://www.bio.utexas.edu/courses/bio406d/images/pics/fag/quercus_marilandica.htm

Hope you can find a nice spot to plant it : )

edit: could be the threatened Arkansas Oak? Where do you live?

Loquot????

Thanks for everyone's input.  I'm in Birmingham, Alabama.  I suppose it may be an oak seedling as there are a number of oaks in the area where this came from.  Aren't there some fig varieties that have an oak-like leaf?

Sorry but it's an oak.

Hey guys, thanks for your response.

Went back to the place where the original fig tree was and found some new growth.  Can anyone tell from this picture what variety fig tree it is?
