Help with ripening

I have several trees with unripe figs on them. I'm not sure of the day figs starting forming - but I have to be getting close to when ripening should occur. My VDB has a couple figs starting to swell. Those figs look great and I feel confident they will ripen. My MBvs had a fig begin to swell then it just shriveled up and fell off - but it has a couple dozen more figs on it. Problem with those figs is they seem to have a problem with either insects biting the fruit causing oozing and small white crystalized deposits OR some outward sign of FMV. I'm getting frustrated! But I suppose patience is the key. 

I want to do everything I can to see these figs ripen. Today is supposed to be hot by Pittsburgh standards - 88 degrees. But then the bottom drops out of the forecast. The extended 10 day forecast doesn't show another day out of the 70's. Should I move my trees with unripened figs on them to the greenhouse? Also, once they start to show signs of swelling should I cut back on water?

Remove all young figs that are smaller than fruits in stagnant stage.
Remove all young branches that have no fruits on them,or have tiny incipient fruits.
If plants in pot ,move pots in full sun.
That way your more mature fruits will ripe.

Thanks for info.  I have been knocking off small fruit.  I will do what you said about removing the young branches.  They are all in full sun now - on my patio so they should get lots of heat "in theory".  Our summer hasn't been the greatest so I think my trees are behind.  Would putting them in the greenhouse help?  Thanks

Also pinch top growing tips on all branches.
Placing them in greenhouse will help, but the fruit quality might suffer.
I would place them in greenhouse after Oct.1

It is thought that rubbing olive oil on the eye of the fig helps it ripen faster.... any information on that?

Tony...I had the same issue with my VBD. Just started turning color Monday. They ripen fast. Here is a picture today. I do get that white stuff on the outside of my other figs. Dosent seem to be an issue. My Celeste and BT have been producing great ripe figs for last three weeks. I'm thinking sun is more important than temp at temps above 70 but don't really know. Others here have a lot more experience and perhaps can comment.

I am not sure of the reason but putting Olive oil on the eye does make the fig ripen.  It won't taste as good as if it ripened without olive oil but it tastes better than not ripening at all.
