Here we go again...

Shuffel2014.jpg

The one gallons and up are starting to shuffle. Hopefully we will have a mild spring and avoid the apri-hell we had last year.

they are looking really cute.  we had 2 days of sun here also.

weather is jumpy these days..
global warming?

here my trees started blooming and giving some brebas and now for the last week raining alot.

i guess once the trees go out of dormancy they are programed to grow whatever the weather is- Probably they got a program that switches on and off the dormancy for the rest of the season

No doubt Andy. I have a really nice boss( I have given a fig tree to I might add) who let me go home last April to put my trees in. It was in the low 40's in the morning when I went to work so I put out all my trees. A mid day surprise storm came along dropped the temps to freezing fast. Come to think of it, that might be the same time period you had a post about your VdB getting a bit of freeze, it froze about half my tulips too.

Yep, April 10th 2013 and 7F in Denver! I was glad I waited until Mother's Day last year, thinking I had sufficiently controlled my urge to push the season, then WHAM, snow in June! I have too many to shuffle now. I think I will down-pot some of them to 10 gallon pots and just root prune. It seems they produce well enough in small pots.

Actually, from what I hear from my scientist friends, globe is starting to recover, we are supposed to have cooler climates, more rains and colder overall weather...
So, yeah, Not a Global warming but Global cooling...With better emission systems on the new cars and tougher regulations on industrial pollutants I can totally see HEALING of Earth from outside in :)

Aaron, we have had an abnormally cold winter in the eastern half of north america but the overall global trend is toward increasing temperatures, not global cooling.  2013 was one of the hottest years ever recorded:

Andy, I have one of those fold up carts.  Boy they are great!  My problem is I need one that's 20' long!  I told my wife I need to buy new truck ----one with a long bed so I can carry more trees.  She said NO and went out and bought me a 30 dollar attachment for the cart that connects to my riding mower!

Dang that woman is smart!

Well, at least my mower is new!

Bingo! Give that man a rooted Black Madeira.

It's unfortunate the first term used for what is happening was 'global warming'. A far better term would have been something like 'climate disruption' to better explain unusual weather patterns. It's also extremely unfortunate something so important became a political issue.

In my part of the world, SoCal, it's been a very warm winter. Figs don't lie - a few of mine never went dormant at all. And the majority that did, most are already leafing out.

I'm really looking forward to a great fig year - if we can still use water that is - major drought here, most likely also climate related. I gave away over 30 figs a few weeks ago to lessen water usage.

Steve, I don't know what to say to that, it's not my specialty in science ;/
But I think they are bringing up the cleaner air issue and what changes come with it is some parts getting warmer and some parts cooler. It's a healing process which is going to take a very long time , The damage caused by humans here on Earth is not to take it lightly.
Gina I'll take a rooted Black Madeira, just to help you out. ;)
Thank you.

Heh, exactly Brent.

Milehighgirl, if you have too many figs I think I can help ;)
