Hi

Just wanted to say hello to everyone! I'm very new to growing figs, and not much is known about it here in Trinidad. But I have a little plant and it seems to be doing well, so fingers crossed that I will have some delicious figs in the future...I think it is a Brown Turkey ;-)

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your fig tree.

Welcome to the forum. Your tree should do well for you.

Welcome! I'm just starting as well. I'm up to three trees and one set of cuttings rooting.

Welcome to the forum !

Welcome !!!

Thanks everyone!

Hey Bob,
I'm not the one Bass visited but was very excited to find out that he has seen figs successfully growing here! Hoping to get some more varieties if this one does well:-)

Will try to post some pics

Welcome! I've read somewhere that Brown Turkey is well adapted to Hawaii so it's
reasonable to assume it will do well in Trinidad. I am also new to growing figs; two years
ago, on a hunch on a return visit to the Philippines, I brought a cutting of Osborne
Prolific. When I visited there again in May this year, I was amazed to see it now
over 8 feet tall and bearing profusely. The Philippines has a tropical climate with an
average daily maximum temperature of 90℉; it rains often, in torrents.

Thanks for sharing your story gabeE2407!..........That's so encouraging to hear. That climate is pretty much what we have here.I will keep an eye out for that species of fig!

@Islandfig: You're welcome. I would especially like to add that this fig is in a region southeast
of Manila, where almost every typhoon that brews in the Pacific comes calling — at least 20
times a year. The only drawback so far is that the birds and the chickens usually beat everyone
else to the fruit as soon as they ripen. :-(

@gabeE2407  : Yes, I'm already thinking about what I will do about the birds when I finally start to see some fruits.Thank goodness  there are no chickens anywhere near my home lol

Hello,
welcome to the forum. Check with the La Vega nursery in Gran Couva or in San Fernando, They imported several varieties from me and they've taken off, and started producing at an early age.
I will be sending more varieties in the coming months.
I have seen figs trees have one single shoot that will grow up to 15' tall with no branching, They do require frequent pinching to encourage branching.
Keep us posted.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the info. Bass! Will definitely have to make a trip down to La Vega Estate soon....and thanks to everyone else for all the links....Very cool pics

Welcome to the forum enjoy the forum and your figs.
