Hi Folks! (Noob Intro)

Just wanted to say hi!  I have been lurking around for a while now, and just wanted to introduce myself.  I live in Ontario, Canada and just started with this whole fig thing.
My mother gave my an unknown white variety - really smells like cat spray - no coconut or spice smell here!  But I started looking into how to care for it and ran into this web page.  I've been slowly trying to digest all this info for over a month now!  So much to know, so many varieties!
Then I found some tiny Hardy Chicago trees at Richters Herbs in Goodwood.  They were on sale (halfprice) so I grabbed 3 for the low price of $9 total!
I took 3 cuttings from the big white and all three took....I was very pleased.
So I went from zero figs to 7 in less than a month - but I guess not a feat for most people here judging by the conversations I have read!

So aside from saying hi, I was wondering:
1)  Any other Canadians around that know of good places to purchase different varieties in Peterborough, Oshawa, GTA or close by?
2)  Any varieties perform better in a short growing season? Like single crop I guess,or smaller figs for faster ripening...?
3)  Any Canadians trade cuttings?  No borders = No need for certificates then I guess?  Not that I have anything to offer, but maybe in the future...

Thanks for your time, and thanks for your help with the new hobby - even though you didn't realize it!

Dave
