High Acid, Intense figs?

People are making such a fuss over the Ponte Tresa fig tree. The taste is described as: “It has a lemony zing just before its full fig flavor hits the palate like a semi.” That sounds like Igor’s El Molino fig which also is a high acid tasting fig: “bright, sharp raspberry notes, complexity and moderate sweetness. This is an intense fig.” Are there other high acid, intense figs for people who like that taste? Just so I don't have to rush out and bid on a Ponte Tresa fig tree any time soon. __________________ Mara Southern California Zone 1990= 9b 2012= 10a 2020=?

I've never had a Ponte Tresa before so I can't comment on it. But to the point, LSU Scott's Black, for me, has tasted like a Raspberry Linzer cookie. It's really intense and when you compare it to grocery store Brown Turkeys and Missions, it's kind of a shock. That's a Raspberry Linzer cookie. Try looking at Col de Dames and Strawberry Vert. The highest acid fig I've tasted I'd Igo Prusch, the real Igo, not the one misidentified some time ago that made it into many collections. It is probably the most "different" tasting (in a good way) fig I've sampled. It may be a little difficult to find, still, as Harvey C. in particular only recently made a point of emphasizing that there was an incorrectly IDed Igo that was likely the predominant Igo in circulation. If your prospective trading partner has not fruited it and can vouch for its acidity, it may not be Igo Prusch. Most other really high acid figs I've sampled are "premium" types like Preto, Black Madiera, the CdD figs and Galicia Negra, the most acid of that group in my experience. Adriatic JH is a more easily obtainable fig with good acid levels. There are others, though I'm not sure any I am aware of have acid levels higher than those mentioned and definitely not higher than Igo. __________________ Neil Reno, NV Zone 6b
