i've been trying to take pix, but they are not focusing right. but to my eyes, BM seems to be getting ready to put on the figs. FP is also trying, but it seems BM is few days earlier. the swelling on the node where figs come out is little more.. bigger on the BM. 

also, it looks like BM branches much better than FP. FP seems to favor growing straight up. 

still too early, just the impression i'm getting at this stage. they are both 3rd yr trees... i think.. they were both in 3 gal last yr, so.. it must be 3rd yr this yr. 

Pete, put your hand behind it or next to it at the same depth of focus, that does the trick on focusing.

it's still hard to see.. but will definitely post pix when it pushes out.

my bm seems to want to grow more spreading, a lot more horizontal branches than other trees, but then it likes to put multiple branches at the tips of those when I pinch of course.

Neither my Black Madeira or my Figo Preto gets hair, earlier or later than the other.

jon, you might want to consider rogaine for your figs...
