Way to go Lou two beautiful fruits

Way to go Lou two beautiful fruits

Lou,

Good for you! I l'm on the border of 5 & 6. I had my first tomato yesterday, but it will be a good month before I have a ripe fig. You're making us northern growers proud.

Joe

Great Lou, I've got the black triana breba two days ago, it was good, average fig.

As for tomatoes, I've been picking tomatoes for at least 2 weeks.

Double congrats!! Everything is about two half weeks earlier this year for me in MO.  Got my first fig 6/22, last year 7/9.  Picked my first Jetstar tomato 6/22, last year 7/13. This is the earliest that I ever picked a tomato. I forgot to ask what variety of tomato did you pick today?

nhardy,

I did not mark my tomato plants this year but I would say it most likely is an early girl. I plant different varieties. I never buy large tomato plants just go with the 6 to 8 inch long seedlings. To me it's a challenge when the first large tomato comes in.

The figs it surprised me when I saw that fig because I thought most of my early figs had fallen off after that sleet storm we had in early spring. It pleases me to see that a fig or two survived.

Thanks for your replies.

Lou

I went overseas for a little over a week and came back to find many of the heirloom tomatoes I planted in our neighborhood/community garden (15 diff't varieties) have blossom end rot.  They never got mulched, and we're going through quite a dry spell right now in the Atlanta area - lots of the rain is going south of us, the rest is going north.  I'm jealous of the tomato picture.  Imagine how upset I was to come home and need to pull off half of my tomatoes - including several coloring-in Pink Zebras a fellow forum member shared... Ugh.  (Pic attached, you can see the bottoms are necrotic if you look close)

But, on the good side, we got at least a dozen BT brebas, while not very tasty to me (just sweet), it was a nice gift.  Somehow, even with not much rain, they still popped.

Nice pics!  Please update this thread with pictures of the fig when picked/eaten.

Nice Lou.
Planted my veg garden very late this year and used seed for everything (long story), will plant fall crop soon, figs are coming along little by little in my containers oh the anticipation !

Its great to see figs are ripening for others now keep the pictures coming please for we wait all winter for this season to be upon us then soon gone by us.

Im trying to to keep last seasons fig taste memory strong for now and pictures help a great deal.

Lou, the fig and tomato look great! Glad a few held on for you after that storm. As for tomatoes, I started picking the last week of May and they are done now. I hope you get a bumper crop of tomatoes & figs.
