Hollier ???'s

I have a small hollier that was originally sourced from JR. It had 4 small very round figs on the tree and when they started to ripen they turned slightly yellow and didn't swell much, when I checked them they fell off one at a time but they were completely dry inside and not edible. Has anyone ever had this happen with their hollier. There is one left on and I will take pictures if this one does the same thing. I heard many great things about this fig so it was kind of a let down. I don't know if it was dropped early or if that's how it ripened, also it was more round then other holliers I've seen in pictures.

same sort of thing happened to a lot of my figs this year.

Sounds like mine.  My Hollier cuttings came from Kerry (drivewayfarmer) that I rooted in early March.  Today it stands about 4ft from the root ball.  It has 4 small marble sized figs that have been on it for 3 months and they haven't done anything.  I'll up pot it next spring and see how it does.

Ryan, just give it time. If it is in fact a Hollier from JR it
will be a very good fig. My three year tree from JR ripened
about 15 figs and they were good. I let them stay on the
tree until they were soft, spotted and really ugly.

That's the way we ate them at LSU's Fig Field Trials this Summer and they were excellent. They were so ugly I had to fight my tongue to get them in my mouth!!!

Hollier growers-What zone are you in and month do Holliers tend to ripen?

Ryan, I think it has to do with the lateness of the season. My Hollier's first figs were ripening during all the rain of June and July. I now have a second crop but most of them are not ripening. I think the trees have spend themselves. I have a couple of others trees that produced some early figs and now have a second crop that are falling.

Thanks everyone, I'll give it another year or two
